Vieja Valley hosted two performances by the nationally ranked Jumping for Joy jump rope team from Santa Clara, California.

Our newly formed Vieja Valley Joyous Jumpers team was thrilled to share our excitement about the sport of jumping rope with the rest of the school through the hosting of this outstanding team. Coach Caroline DeLoreto, a 20 year old SBCC student, has been working (volunteering) with many of our 1st 6th graders for several months now. Many of our own students have mastered impressive skills.

The members from Jumping for Joy who performed were, Michelle (18), Ankur (22), Katie (13), Sarah(13), Christine(13), and Jessica (15). Their head coach, Cindy Joy is also a record holder in many over 30 year old division of skills. VVJJ team members invited the team members into their homes Thursday night after their long drive. The entire student body and staff was dazzled by their amazing performances. After their performances, the team enjoyed a buffet lunch provided by VVJJ's team parents. The treat didn't end for us, as they headed out to the drizzly winter playground to turn ropes and coach all of our VV students for both the lower and upper grade lunch recess times.

We would love to see other local elementary schools form teams of their wn. Jump ropes only cost a dollar, making this a sport affordable to all. We'd love to see some local adult teams as well.
