We're Keyboarding At Vieja Valley School

For the past four weeks, our 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students have been working very hard at learning the techniques of proper keyboarding. It's hard work and they've been doing a great job. Unfortunately, four weeks is not enough time to master touch typing. There is still work to do. If you have a favorite student living in your home, you can help.

Don't let the kids give up now. With a few more weeks of practice and encouragement, they'll get it. Already, the pressure to just get their classroom homework done is conflicting with our requests to have the students type exhibiting good habits and proper fingering. It's tough. They struggle. There is a huge temptation for them to just look at their hands, peck away, and get the work done. Please, don't let it happen.

Find time for your son or daughter to practice keyboarding through the month of October. Motivate them to do their best work. If they practice twenty minutes at day, 4 or 5 days a week, they'll be surprised at their progress and so will you. We're not asking them to type fast. We're asking them to strike the correct key with the correct finger and not look at their hands. Watch them type to ensure they are practicing correct fingering. It's a worthwhile investment.
