Empty Bowls 2005

Empty Bowls is a charity event held every year in Santa Barbara. At this benefit luncheon, soup is served out of bowls donated by artists in the community. The proceeds go to the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County, an organization which provides food to more than 160 agencies in the country. There are more than 68,000 people who are in need of regular meals. Over half of these people are over the age of 65 or under 18. For a donation of $25, a person chooses a handmade bowl, enjoys a simple meal of gourmet soup and bread ... then takes home the bowl as a reminder of the meal's purpose to help feed the hungry in our community.

As in years past, Vieja Valley made its contribution to this wonderful event by having its 2nd/3rd and 3rd grade classes make bowls with their art teacher Mariko Tabar.
