Our 18 eggs have arrived from Texas!

The eggs went into the incubator April 19, 2005.

They will need to incubate for 21 days...

Monday, May 9, the day after Mother's Day, the first chick peeped just before recess.

After lunch, another chick used its egg tooth to pip its way out of its shell.

Tuesday, May 10, on Mexican Mother's Day, Dia de la Madre, 7 more chicks hatched!

The first day of hatching, Mrs. Pizzinat and Mrs. Schultz quickly opened the incubator and gently snatched two eggs. They carefully wrapped the eggs in a child's sweatshirt and a towel. The two moms, all their children and the two eggs headed home to the Pizzinat's chicken coop where a broody hen was waiting...

Mrs. Pizzinat is carefully introducing her hen to two almost ready to hatch eggs!

The night of the first signs of chicks, Mrs. SB met three parents and five kids in PJs at the classroom just after 8 PM. We just had to sneak a last peek of the day. One sister drew a welcome to the world card while a brother read about chicks to other kids.

Nine of the chicks are now in the four-colored brooder box. They are eating their first chick food and being enjoyed by many people at our school!

What will our chicks look like when they grow up?
