February 12 to March 13, we observed the night sky.
Every night, even on the weekends, we looked up into the night
sky. At first, we could not see the moon. The first two weeks,
we watched it wax into the quarter moon and then the full moon.
We watched another week, as the moon waned into the last quarter
moon. The last week, we watched as the moon finally slipped out
of sight. We noticed all sorts of star constellations, too!
Everyone kept at least
3 journal entries a week. We wrote the date, time and detailed
observations of the night sky. Some nights we drew, painted, collaged
or wrote poems. Here are some of our entries. Enjoy!

I saw many stars but no moon. I did not smell anything but the sweet scent of air.
I heard crickets chirping. At the bottom of my picture there is a fence.
Midway on my picture where the light is, is
my next-door neighbor's window.

Me and my cat
sitting in a tree
looking at the stars and the moon
shining brightly
the moon has a smile
so do the stars
maybe even Mars
I think my cat does, too
I know I have one
And I hope you do, too.

I saw half of the moon tonight. I also saw two shooting stars and five airplanes, too. It was a little warm but mostly cold.
It smelled good outside because the wind was blowing the flowers scent but I felt the wind blowing on my body.

This moon is a very bright moon. It is a full moon.
The air doesn't smell good. I hear cars on the freeway.
The skin on my legs is chilled.
A good night.

One night, in a cuddly house, there lived a brown and gray bunny. She woke up from the middle of bedtime and she was hungry. She saw the moon and said, " Why is that cookie up in the sky?" And she thought the sky was milk! So she thought she could climb up on her house. But her house was too small and the moon was far away from the bunny. She hopped on a big, tall rock because she wanted to reach it since she thought it was a cookie. She thought she could have the sky in a cup and the moon on a plate! It was a full moon. When it was morning, her mom went to wake her up and said, " Where is my little bunny?"
She looked all around the house for her. She looked in her room. She was not there. She looked in her brother's room. She was not there. She looked and looked but she was nowhere. She looked outside in the front yard she was not there but her tracks were! Her mom tried to follow her tracks and left peanuts along the way just in case little bunny came along because she loves peanuts!
Suddenly, little bunny woke up and said, "Where is my mommy? I want breakfast!" He looked in her room, then he looked in his sister's room and everywhere else but she was not there. He went into the kitchen and made some cereal for breakfast. His dad woke up and said, " I need to go to work. I cannot find my wife so she can make my breakfast." So he made his own breakfast and went to work, (which was going in the garden and eating all the carrots!)
Then his mom returned and found her little bunny. The little bunny still believed the moon was a big white cookie and the sky was milk!

You're full
You're crescent

It doesn't matter
Just you're always so beautiful
You could be the winner of a planet contest
For beauty and size and closeness
You are everyone's friend
You are so yellowy
So rounddd
You are the best mooooooooooooooooon!

One night a little boy was walking with his mom when he saw the moon. The moon was a full moon and some of it was covered with clouds. The little boy asked his mom, " Why is the moon dirty?"
His mom laughed and said, " The moon is not dirty, it is covered with clouds!"
I know this story because I am the little boy!
Cristabel's entry
The moon is saying, " Welcome to my imaginary camp place."
The moon has a bright smile and you can see the moon in the daytime and at the bay, too. The moon gives you ten wishes. There is one problem! A wolf that will steal your wishes and your good stuff. One day a family moved in and the moon gave them ten wishes and the wolf stole all the wishes but one. They made a wish that the wolf would have a good heart and he did. Then the moon gave the wolf his own two wishes.

Once upon a time there was a girl. One of her favorite things to look at was the moon. One night when she went to go look at her friend the moon he was not there. All the girl could see was stars. The girl went to her moon right away. Her mom said I'm busy- go ask your father. The girl ran over to her father but before she could say anything her father said, " Go ask your brother."
Her brother explained to her. Oh, by the way, her name is Alex. Anyway he told her about the new moon. Alex wasn't scared anymore.
