Art, Music, Movement, Library, and Computer Skills are very important at Vieja Valley. The children see specialists once a week in each of these curriculum areas.
In addition, carpentry, sewing, gardening, pet care, and acting are emphasized in Room 3. Every child learns to hammer nails, sew buttons, plant seeds, feed the classroom pets, and perform for others.
Every year, new special projects evolve. Last year, we learned more about how to teach others new math skills, while producing a math video with the help of our UCSB ArtsBridge scholar. We planted a Pizza Garden next to our ABC Garden. The children worked on a theatrical production called "Anansi and the Moss-Covered Rock."
