Once upon a time, there was a dog. Her name was Casey. She always obeyed her owners. The only time she didn't was when they told her to leave the table or stop begging.
She use to always run at the beach and shake all the water off on me. She would run in the sand and get all dirty. When we got home, we would give her a bath and she would hate it but she would stay and let us give it to her. Then she would really shake off. When we lived in our old house, she would roll on the deck by our pool after she shook off.
When she got a bit older, she didn't go to the beach anymore. Most of the time, she was on the front porch and the rug in the living room. Around the end of November, Casey got very sick with cancer. January 11, 2002, Casey Dall died. I will remember her forever and ever.
Imaginary Place Story
This September sculpture and story was inspired by Alice McLerran and Barbara Cooney's book
called Roxaboxen.
The Land of Rocks
This is a story about a town called The Land of the Rocks. It is called that because there is a very rocky beach. There is a bread factory. There is a water fountain in the town. The path is stone. The cars have to go on the rocky hills. In this town, there are a lot of sales. The sales are usually antique sales. The house of the mayor is very beautiful. It has a rock garden. As you can see, there are posts around the mayor's house. Those are for security in case someone tries to break into the mayor's house. His sister is the one sitting in the chair. Her name is Alex. Sometimes she goes to the plate sales to look. Her grandmother does not like the plates. Her brother is always busy in meetings. She can never ask him for one of the plates. The town does not have any trees. Once every year, the whales come by the beach. The whales are safe.
Chumash Notes
In October, we watched a film on the Chumash and took 10 interesting notes.
Mr. Stevens taught us how to export our Kid Pix art into our Claris Home Page text.
Rain Poetry
This November poem was inspired by our first rainy day.
The face of the pumpkin can be dry, wet or anything.
Rain comes down upon the pumpkins.
That means the pumpkin's face is wet.
Wet is good for the pumpkin.
Pumpkins need to grow.
When the pumpkin was a seed,
It needed lots of rain to grow.
It is in the soil in order to grow.
If the pumpkin is a seed they can't grow out of soil,
Especially if there is no pouring rain.
Rain the pumpkins need.
There would be no pumpkin without rain.
So even if you don't like rain,
There would be no fun of carving pumpkins.
Rain the pumpkins need.
This is the story I read at our school's October Author's Tea.
"Ouch!" said Kate when her eight-week old puppy jumped into her arms. Kate lived on a farm in Wyoming. Her puppy's name was C.J. C.J. loved to play on the farm. He played hide and seek with the other animals.
One dark day when Kate was out riding, he tried to cross the road. He was headed out when Kate came riding in. She saw him and grabbed him just in time! She scolded him after that. Soon C.J. knew not to cross the road. He still had lots of fun playing on the farm. But he was still lonely without any friends (meaning other dogs). There were only horses, pigs, sheep and turkeys.
One day C.J. was out flicking the horses tail when he saw a moving truck pull into the neighbors driveway. The woman came out to meet him. A second truck pulled up into the driveway. The men in the truck started to unload the furniture. There were lots of things in the truck. C.J. was curious. What was going on? He started to jump very wildly in the horses' pen. He got lucky because Kate's mother was close by and she grabbed him. If she wouldn't have grabbed him, he would have been stepped on. He saw a little puppy just like him jump out of the car. He got so excited he started to run around and bumped into the wall. Kate started to giggle. Her mom said that they were going to have new neighbors. C.J. was excited. He knew that dog was going to be his neighbor. Now he could have a friend. Maybe a girlfriend...
He tried to sneak over there -- finally he made it. C.J. peeked through the window at the little puppy just like him. He got a look at the puppy's collar. Her name was Molly. C.J. scampered back to the house. He started to bark at Kate. She said, "What's wrong?"
Kate followed him to the neighbors. She saw the puppy. Kate knocked on the door. A boy answered. She said, "My dog is quite fond of yours. May they meet?"
"Of course", said the boy. "Her name is Molly."
They both loved each other as friends, at least for now. They always played together. The boy's name was Scott. Kate and Scott rode their bikes to school together. Soon the puppies grew into dogs. They became more and more fond of each other. They finally fell in love. Still, remember they aren't grown up, so they can't have puppies yet.
But now it's two years later and they are going to have puppies.
