Imaginary Place Story

This September sculpture and story was inspired by Alice McLerran and Barbara Cooney's book

called Roxaboxen.

TIDDLEY TOWN

I have a cool car. It moves with no wheels. There are animals in the town. A conocey and a scolen. My family lives there. The animals look like this. The conocey is caterpillar like. It has a big nose. It is furry and it always smiles. The scolen is frog like. It has no nose. It frowns all the time. It is also very bumpy. It swims good and it lays eggs. It feeds on plants and other soft food. It has no teeth. That's why it feeds on soft food. It is very good for the environment. It is a very nice animal. It has ruff skin and is also very bumpy. I like the feel of it.

It is really hot. There are other animals, too. They are called onosoe, lonenchey and stocoe. They are very nice. I have scolen as a pet. It is about a foot tall. They like water.

This is what the cage looks like. It is very big and is made out of glass. There are rocks in it. There is also grass where it sleeps. Then there is water next to the rock so it doesn't go into the grass.

Chumash Notes

In October, we watched a film on the Chumash and took 10 interesting notes.

Mr. Stevens taught us how to export our Kid Pix art into our Claris Home Page text.

Rain Poetry

This November poem was inspired by our first rainy day.

Rain

Everybody come on.

Let's go right now.

The rain is very fun.

There is no place to run.

Let's go from the gutter to the street

And as far as my feet can go.

They are right in front of me now.

We can see a lot of rain.

Drip!

Drop!

Drip!

Drop!

Hurray!

I wrote this story at home.

The Lizard and the Bird

One day there was a lizard and a bald eagle. The lizard met the bald eagle. The lizard said "Why can't I fly?".

The bird said, "Because you don't have wings."

The lizard said, "Why don't I have wings?".

The bird said, "Because you were not made with them." The lizard started to cry because he wanted to fly.

One day it started to rain. It rained so hard the bald eagle could not fly. The lizard said, "Why can't you fly?".

The bald eagle said, "I don't know."

The wind was so hard the lizard lifted from the air. The lizard said "I can fly!"

"No fair, you are starting to fly and I can't", said the bald eagle.

They met again the next day. The lizard slept in a tree. The bald eagle said, "Why can't I climb walls?".

The lizard said, "Because you do not have suction cups on your feet."

"Why don't I have suction cups on my feet?"

"Because you were not made with them."

The bald eagle cried and cried. The lizard saw some suction cups on a table. The lizard said, "I found some suction cups. I'll give them to you."

The bald eagle started to climb walls.

They became friends.
