Dear Parents,
The sixth grade science camp at Catalina Island Marine Institute is less than one week away. Your application, medical form and money should have already been turned in.
Students do not need to bring any snorkeling equipment, but in the past some students did bring their own mask and snorkel to be sure of a good fit every time.
CIMI has a store where students can buy snacks and souvenirs. We suggest that your child bring no more than $30.00 to $40.00 to spend. CIMI tee shirts cost about $12 and sweat shirts about $25.
Each child is allowed two pieces of luggage, one suitcase or duffel bag and one bedroll.
Everyone is to bring 2 large sack lunches on the trip to Catalina. CIMI will not feed us until 5:00 p.m. Monday, so make sure your child has enough food for the day. Your child may bring an iPod to use on the bus/boat trip, however, they will not be allowed to use them at camp.
In order to be in San Pedro by 8:30 a.m. we plan to leave Monday morning Sept. 18 by 5:30 a.m. Please have your child at school at 5:20 a.m. since we need time to take roll and load the bus. No one will be here before 5:15.
Medications should be placed in a zip-loc baggie with child's first and last name. Inside, place detailed instructions on med times and doseages. Each student needs to give this bag to Mrs. Heiduk first thing Monday morning before boarding the bus. Motion sickness medications can be kept by students for the trip down and back.
Our boat arrives back at San Pedro at 3:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22 and we should be back at school around 7:30.
Drea Pighetti is in charge of a phone tree. The tree will be used to notify parents of our arrival at CIMI, changes in transportation schedules and our estimated time of arrival back at Vieja Valley.
If there is an emergency you can contact CIMI at (310) 510-1622 or fax at (310) 510-0685. The students can call home only in case of an emergency. CIMI's address is
CIMI P.O. Box 796, Avalon, Ca, 90704
We're excited about this marvelous opportunity for your child. If you have any questions please call. The school's number is 967-1239.
Sincerely,
Allison Heiduk
