September 2011

Hi Folks...

What a busy week! We've been working hard and learning lots about Citizenship: about respect, trust, voting, rules, rights, and opinions - all big vocabulary words but we're using them often - see if you can throw it in while you're at dinner!

We're also getting our numbers down to 10 (K group) and starting Chapter 1 (1st). Calendar work, poetry (see if they can tell you the "I Like..." poem - it's an easier one), and we had our first record at "record time." I have a collection of vinyls from high school - we take time to listen to instruments, see if it has an 8-count, and talk about good lyrics (Tuesday: Race picked James Taylor and we listened to "Up On the Roof"...).

Journal time is going well, too! Today we talked about Expository Writing which is a K/1 expectation/standard. We all wrote/drew about someone in our family. Good stuff.

Tomorrow: SCIENCE LAB - anyone have time to come help us with stations? 9:30-10:10. This will be our regular Science Lab time...I'll let you know if I need help weekly...

We started Sharing this week with the first graders and will start the Surprise Box with K on Friday. I sent the 1st grade list home in our Back to School night packet...

Today - we also had the school Innisbrook fundraiser packet come home (1st grade ONLY). It really helps bring science camp (5th/6th grade) costs come down. We had a good assembly informing the students about all of the particulars...

Next week: we start Reading Groups and Raptor Readers. Can anyone help on Tuesdays from 9-9:30??? I'd really love to have someone come so we don't have a group working independently each Tuesday...

BIG HUGE GIGANTIC "THANK YOU" - to Lindsay Woodard for tearing apart all of our first grade math books. Phew!!! And Lila is in Kindergarten! That is one dedicated classroom parent...:)

Have a great week! Email with ?s or if things need clarification!
