Computer Lab Bytes and Insights - Greg Stevens
Pertinent Issues and Questions The pace of change in technology continues to increase. What is state of the art today, is obsolete tomorrow. The computer program at Vieja Valley demands continuous improvement. Therefore, the answers to many critical questions must be reconsidered and revised on a regular basis. New questions must be asked. New methods tried. Here is a partial list of the things I think about when I wake up in the middle of the night. Technology Outcomes In 1993, the Hope School District Technology Commitee generated a Technology Plan. This plan included a listing of sample activities to support student goals in technology for each grade. The activities are based on five strands: Computer-Aided Instruction, Multimedia, Personal Productivity, Computer Literacy, and Keyboarding. I've used these sample activities as a model for our computer program at Vieja Valley.
Have you ever been sitting in front of your computer and been completely stuck? It is without a doubt one of the more frustrating of experiences. There is no need for our young computer users to become frustrated. In the computer lab, the walls and hurdles of new learning are only momentary obstacles in the path of computing excellence. The seven-year computer lab program at Vieja Valley provides specific directed learning in computer technology, including lessons in both hardware and software. Instruction is appropriate to grade level, builds on previous experience, incorporates classroom curriculum, and motivates students of all abilities to perform beyond their current expectations. Our computer lab software has been specifically selected to promote each lesson's specific skills, encourage student individuality, and result in sucessful learning experiences for students who exhibit a wide range of abilities. Many more software titles and CD-ROMs are available in the classrooms and Library. Kids and KeyboardingIs your child ready to start keyboarding? Visit this page to read Mr. Stevens opinion. Here are some of the links Mr. Stevens uses with his classes. This list of attributes was sent to me by my father. He's never steered me wrong.
