Vieja Valley
Computer Lab
The Vieja Valley Computer Lab is quite the happening place on campus. Yes, our machines are getting a bit “long in the tooth”, but we boast a variety of excellent applications, our network and access speeds are sufficient, and the constantly evolving program and curriculum keep our students engaged, safe, and well prepared to accomplish their school assignments. In fact, there are not too many elementary schools that include a comprehensive, age-appropriate, seven-year sequenced Computer Science program as part of their academic offerings.
What? Computer Science in elementary school? Absolutely! Our five learning strands: Computer Literacy, Personal Productivity, Computer-Aided Instruction, Multimedia, and Keyboarding, prepare our students with a strong foundation for continued growth in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)…..all while having lots of fun.
Utilizing technology to help students learn how to think and solve problems is incredibly rewarding. However, equally satisfying is knowing that our students are informed “digital citizens”. Growing-up with computers doesn’t necessarily mean that young people understand the risks and responsibilities of computer use. At Vieja Valley, we make sure that our students are aware of what it takes to be safe online, that they can search responsibly, that they are respectful of intellectual property, that they understand the subtleties and consequences of “cyber-bullying”, and that they recognize that once information is shared on the internet, it is “out there” forever.
Apple's Mac App Store is now open. There are more tools and treats available for “educational technology” than ever before. We’ll try and find the best and show your kids how to use them.
