Unique features: likeness to crayfish, no large claws, spines on lateral margins of abdominal segments, antennae equal to length of body, and covered with spines.
Where They Live:
Range: lower tidal zone North Carolina to Florida Gulf of Mexico
Habitat: among rocks, sponges, and other growth and reefs
How They Act:
Diet: eats stale fish and its own kind with a small amount of seaweed. To escape, they may dart backwards by flicking their adomones. It spends most of its time with its antennae protruding from the safety of a rock crevice or a burrow they have dug.
Reproduction: Female lobster lies on its back while male puts a pack of sperms between the last pair of legs, The eggs are cemented onto the female's swimmerets for 10-11 months.
