Dr. Cristina Sandoval and some other volunteers are working to remove the iceplant around Devereux Road. Citizens had planted iceplant on their own property, but it had spread and it now covers part of the slough. The volunteers are covering the plants with black plastic and letting it roast from the heat of the sun. |

Coal Oil Point- An endangered species of birds, Snowy Plovers, look like rocks from far away, but when you get close, it's too late. The fine for disturbing one of these birds is $10,000. |
Goleta Slough and its surroundings are the home of many birds-and planes. Great blue herons are commonly seen around the lowlands near the airport. Also, coyotes, jackrabbits, and foxes hang out around the extremely loud area. |
