Welcome to our website on marine wetlands in Santa Barbara County. This site features the two main wetlands, Coal Oil Point Reserve and Carpenteria Salt Marsh. We will provide information and a tour of Coal Oil Point just like you were walking through it.

There are two main types of saltwater wetlands: the kind where sea water flows freely in and out of it, and the kind where the sand bar in front of it gives way to the rain once every year

  • Purpose: The purpose of this site is to help people realize the danger these wetlands are in and how they can help them by learning about them.
  • Thanks To: We would especially like to thank Kevin Lafferty and Cristina Sandoval, two marine biologists from UCSB, who gave us almost all of the information that is on this site. They went out of their way to take one of us to Carpenteria Salt Marsh and Coal Oil Point Reserve.

The person in this Quicktime movie is Dr. Kevin Lafferty. He is talking about himself and why the wetlands are important. Dr. Sandoval is in a movie in the Carpinteria Salt Marsh section of the website.
